💼 Personal Project
Product Design | Entrepreneurship | Prototyping | Mapbox
Background
During a COVID layoff, I embarked on a solo project called BikePlaces to keep my UX/UI skills sharp. I had long been interested in learning Mapbox and saw this as a perfect opportunity to dive into this technology. Driven by my passion for mobility and a desire to create something meaningful, I decided to design an app that encourages people to ride bikes.
Designing
I thought of some core features to explore different key flows for an MVP:
- delightful sign in screen
- “post type” IA that could be a part of the UI in two ways: Explore and Map.
- users would “Add Place”, fill in some data, then it could display for other users either in an card layout on Explore, or Map.
- Place – the “post” itself, exploring what data would be here and useful for the user to explore the secret spots posted here.
Results
Through this project, I demonstrated my ability to take a concept from idea to execution, creating an app interface that promotes encourages a healthy, sustainable lifestyle through riding bikes.
As an added bonus, I learned quite a bit about working with Mapbox. I integrated my custom color palette for the brand, tinkered with textures to highlight parks and green space, and controlled information like labels. This was a fun challenge. Now I can say I’m ready to dive deeper into working with maps as key components in an app.
